Wallons-y! Initiative Launch

On June 3rd 2026, following the launch of the WALLONS-Y! initiative by AKT for Wallonia – supported in particular by PulseFoundation, L’Echo and Wallonie Entreprendre – more than 700 stakeholders from the field gathered at La Sucrerie in Wavre.

Entrepreneurs, teachers, researchers, students, and representatives from the voluntary sector, academia and public institutions: a diverse group united by a shared conviction that our regions possess the talent and resources needed to boost their own economic vitality and that of the country as a whole.

A strong message has been sent: one of collective action to build a more robust economic fabric.

As a federation representing industries based throughout Belgium — in Wallonia, Flanders and Brussels — we wholeheartedly welcome these initiatives, which aim to bring the worlds of business, research and education closer together.

For the challenges we face — industrial transition, innovation, making careers more attractive, and strengthening the productive base — transcend regional boundaries. They call for greater cooperation between economic, academic and institutional stakeholders throughout the country.

Our sectors — glass, paper and board — are at the heart of this dynamic:

  • deeply rooted in their local areas,
  • driving forces behind the circular economy,
  • engaged in major industrial transformations.

We are convinced that it is by pooling our energies, our expertise and our ambitions that we will be able to build:

  • stronger regions
  • a more resilient industry
  • and a more competitive and sustainable Belgian economy

This evening marks an important milestone in a process that must continue to gain momentum, in Wallonia and far beyond.

We encourage all initiatives that foster entrepreneurship, collaboration and trust — essential ingredients for building our country’s industrial future.
