Glass plays a crucial role in the building envelope. Not only does it contribute to safety, energy performance and aesthetics, but it also plays an important role in terms of circularity, comfort and well-being. At the same time, standards and quality requirements continue to evolve, presenting manufacturers, fabricators, joiners, façade contractors and specifiers with constant new challenges.
To help professionals in the sector navigate these developments, FAC, in collaboration with inDUfed and the Flat Glass Committee, is organising a themed session on the current challenges and opportunities in the world of glass.
During this afternoon session, you will gain a clear overview of the latest developments in the fields of glass standardisation, quality assessment, sustainability and well-being. The session brings together leading experts who will share their insights and explain how these apply to everyday practice.
Programme
- The updated glass standard NBN S23-002-4 and 5 and its application in Vitralys – Franky and Evelien Symoens – Managing Director & Structural Engineer, Polypane Glasindustrie
- The application of glass standards often still raises questions in practice. During this session, you will receive an update on Vitralys, the digital platform for glass calculations, and how the current standards are applied in the design and selection of glass. The speakers will discuss current developments and key considerations for the sector.
- Visual quality assessment of glass and its relationship to the applicable standards – Jouri Luckermans, Technical Adviser, Buildwise
- Discussions regarding the visual quality of glass remain a key area of focus within the sector. What can a client expect? How are deviations assessed? And how do the assessment guidelines relate to the applicable standards? This session provides a practical framework for the correct interpretation of quality requirements.
- Reducing CO₂ emissions in line with the European climate targets for 2030–2050 – Marc Foguenne – Vice President Sustainability, AGC Architectural Glass Europe & Americas (Presentation in English)
- Sustainability is high on the construction sector’s agenda. The flat glass industry is also accelerating its transition towards circular and low-carbon production. Marc Foguenne highlights the latest developments in glass recycling, the circular use of raw materials and low-carbon glass, and demonstrates how these contribute to the European climate targets for 2030 and 2050.
- Light and health – Paul Roman – Retired Senior Product & Specification Manager, Saint-Gobain Glass
- Daylight has a direct influence on how people experience buildings. It contributes to comfort, wellbeing, concentration and productivity. This presentation will explain the impact of light on the health of building occupants and the role that glass plays in creating pleasant and healthy indoor environments.
