The future of ETS

The European industrial transition is at a turning point.

Belgian industry is willing to invest in electrification, hydrogen, CCUS and low-carbon technologies to achieve the goals of climate neutrality by 2050. But to succeed, the post-2030 ETS framework must support both decarbonisation and competitiveness.

Our 5 priorities:
✅ Ensuring the necessary framework conditions for the transition
✅ No conditionality attached to the allocation of free allowances
✅ Ensure adequate protection through the use of representative benchmarks, and sufficient rights for free allocations
✅ Align the pace of reduction with the realities of innovation
✅ Financing indirect cost compensation at European level

Europe will win the climate race not by exporting its production, but by transforming its industry.
