We are delighted to see the issue of the cost of energy placed at the heart of the Walloon political agenda.
For electro-intensive sectors, it is not only a question of competitiveness. The energy cost differential with our neighbouring countries is now a real brake on investment, weakens our industrial fabric and compromises the electrification efforts that are essential to achieve our decarbonisation objectives.
The future implementation of indirect emission compensation mechanisms in line with EU guidelines is a positive signal. To be truly effective, this measure will have to be accompanied by funding that meets the needs of the exposed sectors.
