This was the topic we discussed during the visit by Walloon parliamentarians from Les Engagés to AGC Glass Europe.
At the heart of the discussions: flat glass recycling, a key driver for decarbonizing our industry. Glass is, in fact, a unique material that can be recycled indefinitely without any loss of quality or properties, provided it is properly sorted at the source. Furthermore, its use helps reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
This visit provided an opportunity to demonstrate in practice the initiatives currently underway throughout the supply chain, as well as to highlight the remaining needs and obstacles to further developing the circularity of flat glass from the construction sector.
Solutions exist, and stakeholders are engaged, but the challenges remain considerable. Strong support from public authorities will be essential to define the legal framework, support collection, and improve sorting.
Thank you to the representatives from Les Engagés—Olivier de Wasseige, Anne-Catherine Goffinet, and Marie Jacqmin—for their interest and the quality of our discussions regarding these strategic issues for the industry, the circular economy, and the climate.
