The cost of manufacturing in Belgium is 20% higher than in neighbour countries.

For the glass, paper and cardboard industries, this competitiveness gap is already weighing on investment decisions and holding back decarbonisation projects.

Some key findings:

✅ Belgian production costs remain significantly higher than those of our neighbours.

✅ It is becoming increasingly difficult to attract and retain industrial investment in Belgium.

✅ Yet the glass, paper and cardboard sectors are essential to the circular economy, the energy transition and Belgian and European industrial sovereignty.

With nearly 300 companies and 17,000 jobs in the glass, paper and cardboard industries, it is essential that budgetary decisions provide a framework that supports their industrial competitiveness.

Now more than ever, we need an environment that supports industry, innovation and local production. Preserving our industrial base means preserving jobs, expertise and our ability to create value in Belgium.
