PPWR & PFAS: Let’s Prevent Unnecessary Waste

Starting August 12, 2026, the PPWR will introduce strict PFAS limits for packaging that comes into contact with food. inDUfed supports this initiative.

⚠️ Without a transition period, however, large stocks of packaging materials that technically meet the requirements risk becoming administratively non-compliant, leading to unnecessary destruction, costs, and environmental impact.

✅ inDUfed advocates for a pragmatic transitional arrangement
We propose a temporary transitional arrangement whereby packaging materials delivered before August 12, 2026, may be placed on the market, provided that it is declared that no PFAS will be intentionally added after that date.

This approach:
✔️ maintains the PPWR’s ambition to reduce PFAS
✔️ prevents waste and unnecessary emissions
✔️ provides legal certainty for governments and businesses

We urge Belgium to implement this approach and promote it at the EU level.
