Sustainability

The Sustainability team deals with all sustainability issues and challenges of inDUfed members. The team also  supports and advices the members in their efforts to make their products more sustainable, in terms of production, use and end-of-life recycling. 

Topics on regional, federal and European levels are monitored and analysed according to the sub-sectors and specific needs of member companies.

Some major topics are :

  • Energy: cost and protection of the competitiveness of member companies, security of supply, energy efficiency through the Walloon sectoral agreements (AdB) and the Flemish energy agreements (EBO), (local) production of (renewable) energy, …
  • Climate: Emissions Trading System (ETS), carbon taxation, reduction of CO2 emissions, …
  • Environment: legislation on: air, water and soil emissions, waste management, obligations linked to environment permits and related reports to the authorities, monitoring, …
  • Circular economy: recycling loop including collection, sorting and recycling of glass, paper and board, regional and federal plans towards a circular economy and a more sustainable society, …
  • Product policy: promotion of paper, board and glass products, monitoring of standards, standardization and packaging requirements, development of packaging prevention plans for our members, food contact legislation for articles and materials intended to come into contact with foodstuffs, use of chemical substances (Reach legislation, CSS, etc.).
  • Safety and prevention: creation of a dedicated platform for members, a network for sharing best practices on safety and prevention at work.   

Information, analysis and data are shared with our members through positions, datasheets, webinars, ad hoc working groups and thematic committees.

inDUfed is recognised as the official sectoral interlocutor of the federal and regional authorities. inDUfed defends the vision and interests of its members, paving the way towards a more sustainable future for the Belgian paper, board and glass industries.
